1992–2022
City Diner History
Three decades of diner history on South Grand.
From Pearl & Ray’s to City Diner
City Diner was founded by Peter Spoto and opened on South Grand in 1992 in the former Pearl & Ray’s Diner space. The restaurant later moved next door into the former Dickmann Bakery building.
A larger South Grand home
A 2003 renovation expanded the restaurant from 85 seats to 240. City Diner became a neighborhood fixture serving breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Closure
The South Grand location closed in August 2022. Independent local reporting and later coverage of the address identify City Diner as the former occupant. No reliable evidence of a City Diner reopening at this location was found.
